Marriot Hotel bombardment suspect arrested

Pakistan police have been holding a group of activists from the militia that are al-Qaeda over alleged involvement with a suicide bomb attack on Marriott Hotel Islamabad years ago that killed 55 people. The suspect, identified as Qari Shakir Rao, incorporated in the lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), and arrested on the fringe of Islamabad this weekend.

Naeem Ahmed, a police spokesman, said that Rao is also suspected of involvement in a series of other attacks. "Investigation is still ongoing and we hope will be able to gather information from him," he said.

Six foreigners, including the Czech ambassador, and three U.S. citizens, including victims killed when a suicide bombing of detonating a truck containing explosives after failed crashing the car through the hotel security staff on 20 September 2008. LeJ Sunni Muslim group is one of a number of groups associated with al-Qaeda, which made the minority groups as a target in the Syiah 1990an era.
